Tent Crew FAQs

• What are the summer season working hours? 🕗

  We operate a 7-day-a-week schedule during the operational summer months from April - October

  We do request flexibility on your schedule.

  For the majority the day begins at 7 am in the warehouse

  We aim to be back by 7pm. However, due to the nature of the projects we cannot leave a job unfinished. The size of the projects vary so some days we may finish at 3pm and some days will go beyond 7pm.

• Can I join the tent crew in June? 📅

  Yes, we are always growing our team and making new connections.

• I have a holiday commitment in my diary. Can I book time off? 🏖

  We love great morale and we like our staff to enjoy work, so we aim to be as flexible as possible with your diary commitments. However, organisation is key to our success, so please notify us of any prior commitments.

• Where do we set up the Tents? 📍

  Each day we travel to and from the following counties:

  London

  South East: Kent, Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex

  East Anglia: Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk
  
  All projects are planned many months in advance so the schedule is structured.
  
  

• Do we stay away from home? 🏨

  On occasion, for a large 2-day setup, we have a real adventure and stay overnight in a hotel. All costs are covered on such occasions and it's great fun with the team!

• What kit do I need? 👕

  We provide the following : 

  • Sail & Peg T-Shirts

  • Sail & Peg Hooded Zip-up

  • Sail & Peg Hi-Vis

  • Sail & Peg Cap

  • Sunscreen

  • Water

  We request the following :

  • Professional Work Shorts (Blue or Grey)

  • Suitable Work Shoes

  • Lunch

  • Enthusiasm 🕺🏼

  We suggest the following :

  • Waterproofs

  • Duffel Bag with 2x Spare sets of clothing

  • 2nd Breakfast | Snacks | 2nd Lunch

   

• How do I get to site? 🚙

  We use 4x4 Trucks to tow the kit to each site. These have 5 seats so you'll either be a driver or a passenger, depending on the role you have applied for.

  We begin and end the day at the warehouse. You can drive, cycle, or be dropped/collection there.

• How often do we take breaks? ☕️

  On a straight forward day we aim for the following :

  • 15 minutes in the morning

  • 30 minutes for lunch

  • 15 minutes in the afternoon

  However, our schedules can be varied (Small projects | Large Projects | Travel Time) so break times may vary.

• Is it fun? 🥳

  Yes! We love it! We all have so much fun! And the places we setup our amazing structures are world-class!

• When is payday? 🤑

  Every 2 weeks.

  Each 2 week period of work is paid the following Friday.

• Are phones allowed on site? 📱

  We allow the use of phones on-site within reason and do not currently operate a strict policy, however, we request you be part of a team. Excessive use of the phone can affect team morale.

• How are working hours recorded? ⏳

  We have a fantastic app that tracks hours with transparency for both you and us. We can both see, in real time, the exact hours that you have worked.

• I'm joining for the summer season but I am interested in a full-time position 🤝

  We have a long-term vision for growth at Sail & Peg so we are always on the lookout for suitable candidates with the enthusiasm to join our journey.

  We will notice your strong work ethic, dedication, and potential. If you can prove a commitment and show a strong understanding of our mission we will always be open to discussions for Full-Time work where possible.

• Do we work in all weather conditions? 🌦

  We predominantly cater for weddings. This means we erect our Sailcloth Tents and create a space for the best day of people's lives!  (How cool is that!) 🎉

  This also means that we work by 2 well-known sayings:

  "The show must go on!" 

  "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing"

  Yes, we work in all weather conditions.

   

• How often am I expected to work? 💪🏼

  Our common schedule is as follows : (with highlighted points)

  Monday : Take Down (Medium Size Crews)

  Our shorter Days | Cleaning

  Tuesday : Take Down (Medium Size Crews)

  Our shorter Days | Cleaning

  Wednesday : Build Day (Large Crews)

  Our longer Days | Main Structures

  Thursday : Build Day (Large Crews)

  Our longer Days | Main Structures 

  Friday : Finishing Day ( Multiple Small Crews)

  Reduced crew | Day off | Small but important jobs

  Saturday : Event Staff (Individuals or Pairs)

  Hours Vary | Be part of the event! | Day off

  Sunday : Take Down (Medium Size Crews)

• I know someone interested in a job. How do I put them in touch? 🤙🏼

• I have a dog. Can I bring them to site? 🐩

  We love dogs! However, we cannot accomodate them in the workplace due to various factors including employee insurance liability and client expectation.
